Live-action Star Wars series The Acolyte will not be returning for a second season, despite ending in a cliffhanger.

Showrunner Leslye Headland has previously said it was intended as a multi-season show and admits there are narrative threads that have not been tied up.

The first episode was the biggest premiere of the year for Disney’s streaming service but shed viewers as the season progressed, finishing with the lowest audience of any Disney+ finale. The show suffered from vocal criticism of some of the story elements and accusations of review bombing.

Fans haven’t given up, with a campaign underway to try and get the series renewed.
