Almost a year ago, The Expanse's showrunner Naren Shankar hinted that there could be more Expanse after the TV show finished.

But he offered no detail.

You know, honestly, that would be more of a question for our studio, for Alcon. They control the property, but what I will say is that there's definitely more to tell and I'm sure Ty and Daniel would say exactly the same thing. But yeah, that's probably about as much as I can say at this point.

Now Alcon have revealed a new prequel The Expanse game which they are developing in partnership with Telltale Games and Deck Nine.

In the near future on the outskirts of the asteroid belt, a bloody mutiny breaks loose on the Artemis. You take the role of XO Camina Drummer, where your choices determine the fate of the ship. What will you do with the truth, Bosmang?

As you might expect there is an accompanying trailer.

It should be noted that the Telltale Games of today is not the same company that made the earlier, popular Telltale Games.

They went bust, sacked most of their staff and were eventually bought by another company who then decided to trade under their name.

That's business.

But they'll be developing this The Expanse game in that style.

Deck Nine made the Life is Strange games which have accrued a healthy collection of awards, including two this year for Life is Strange: True Colors - Games for Impact (The Game Awards) and Best Storytelling (The Golden Joysticks).

So there should be some decent talent working on this.

The question is, in the absence of continuation of the TV series, will fans make the leap from TV to the game?

We would expect book fans to be more dedicated to the series and keen to see more story in any format.

But the willingness of TV viewers to make that jump is the big unknown.

If enough do and Alcon continue to be unable to find any service willing to fund more TV Expanse, then maybe they'll adapt the remaining books in this game format.

No ETA has been given. It's likely years away.
