Avatar: The Way of Water has made a predictably big splash in cinemas but unaccompanied by either of the planned video games, Reckoning and Frontiers of Pandora, sci-fi gamers might be looking to scratch a futuristic aquatic itch with other titles.

Relief may be just around the corner with a January 12 release date for underwater city builder Aquatico and a suggestion from developer Unknown Worlds that they may soon unveil Subnautica 3.

And as some eagle-eyed fans might have spotted, we might have some more exciting news for you in the new year.

In February last year via Twitter they advertised a position which confirmed that the title is in development.

We are looking for a Lead Programmer to help the team build the tech for our next game in the Subnautica universe!

This latest tease was delivered with their 2.0 update to the first Subnautica which brings with it a lot of under the hood improvements and also several base structures previously exclusive to the second game.

Aquatico releases on PC (Steam) on January 12 and has a free demo available now.

Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are available now on PC (Steam and Epic), Xbox and PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
