Mysterious sci-fi film 65 has been delayed a year to April 2023.

No reason was provided. That's another mystery.

Two things about this title struck us as curious when we found it listed for cinematic release this year.

First - the lack of information, photos and footage, which is curious but not unprecedented.

Two recent major Netflix releases - The Silent Sea and Everyone is Dead - were similarly lacking until just before release.

Whether they were preserving the mystery or scrabbling to make their deadlines is something we can only guess at.

But they both released on time and were great so 65 might have been able to do the same.

What do we actually know about 65? Only this:

An astronaut crash lands on a mysterious planet only to discover he's not alone.

Seriously. That's all.

Second - Adam Driver in a starring sci-fi role.

Not that any actors are to blame for the travesty which is the recent Star Wars trilogy, but his character was especially bad.

The Sith aren't pathetic angst-ridden, self-harming tweens shamelessly desperate for parental love.

Super embarassing.

Adam didn't write the character but part and parcel of the acting trade is audience association with characters they portray.

We had been curious to see him in a better written role but also surprised that he'd be given this particular one.

Beyond Star Wars, Adam starred in two undewhelming films which released late last year.

The Last Duel was loved by critics and audiences, earning a respectable 85% from critics and 81% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was a very small audience and officially a bomb.

The House of Gucci managed to turn a profit but was less appreciated by critics, earning a low 62% on RT but a healthier 83% from viewers.

On top of Star Wars this might have made 65 a difficult sell to audiences and Sony might have delayed just to give it some distance.

Previously scheduled for an April 28/29 release in Australia/US, it has been pushed back to April 14 2023 in the US.
