On the futuristic dinosaur survival game Ark front we have two new trailers - for series adaptation Ark: The Animated Series and tactical battle royale spinoff Ark: The Survival of the Fittest.

None for sequel Ark 2 which along with the series is scheduled to release next year.

The series trailer underwhelmed, feeling soulless and generic.

Main character, voiced by Australian actress Madeleine Madden (Wheel of Time) has a lost love.

Wakes up in dino land, as do players in the game of origin.

She receives some bland way of the warrior "wisdom" from another character voiced by the marvellous Michelle Yeoh.

etc. etc.

Promos don't always accurately represent a work of entertainment but if there's a mismatch, it's usually a case of over rather than under selling.

In the description accompanying the trailer they detail that the series will release on a to-be-announced platform.

Maybe none of the major platforms want it?

The "new features overview" trailer for shut down in 2016 and freshly revived The Survival of the Fittest didn't feel bland or generic.

But to we who have not played that or Survival Evolved, unimpressive.

Survival Evolved is one of the most popular multiplayer survival games.

Simple and unique idea, well implemented and without any noxious monetisation.

The battle royale spinoff may prove that dinosaur coolness alone won't guarantee the success of a title.

Ark: The Animated Series will premiere in 2023 on a presently unknown platform.

Ark: The Survival of the Fittest is available now on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
