Avatar 2 Trailer

The Avatar 2 teaser trailer which premiered with Doctor Strange in cinemas has now been released.

As you'd expect from the original film, it's utterly gorgeous.

Visually, thirteen years later Pandora still looks leaps and bounds ahead of anything else on our screens.

It also lives up to the teaser moniker.

One of those Na'vi isn't blue.

Keeping an ear to the ground for this trailer, we came across ScreenRant article last week which spoke of a green skinned Na'vi which they presumed to be some kind of alteration.

But to our eye this looks like one of Jake and Neytiri's childen might have inherited his father's human skin tone.

Jake's avatar was grown from his brother's human DNA so maybe this should have been expected.

Will the Na'vi treat him differently? With not just differently coloured skin, but the skin colour of an invading army?

As a society Na'vi in the first film didn't seem inclined to that kind of stupidity but outsider Jake wasn't immediately universally accepted.

His avatar was blue skinned but he was known to be not Na'vi and some were not welcoming.

Towards the end of the trailer we also see this child wearing what appears to be a diving mask while none of the blue-skinned Na'vi do.

His physical differences could go deeper than just skin colour and compared to other Na'vi he might effectively be disabled.

There could be more depth to the social commentary in this film than we previously expected.

Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in Australian cinemas on December 15.
