It's the end for online game Marvel's Avengers. After its March 31 update the game will receive no further updates and official support will end on September 30.

Both solo and multiplayer gameplay should continue to function but that comes with a caveat.

The changes we are making to how the game functions will ensure as long a life as possible. However, after September 30, 2023 we can’t guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen [sic] circumstances.

The March 31 update will close the game's marketplace and all cosmetic content will be made available to everyone.

Haven't played this one but aren't surprised by this decision.

By all accounts even putting aside the presence of microtransactions which many players are bitterly opposed to, the game isn't great.

It is interesting to see this alongside seemingly poor performance of single-player tactical card battler / roleplaying game / social sim Marvel's Midnight Suns.

Cinematically Marvel continue to rake in mountains of money even through a weaker phase four and COVID, but haven't had much success in gaming.

Though widely regarded as excellent, Marvel's Midnight Suns is super niche.

DC aren't doing much better at the moment.

We enjoyed Gotham Knights but it met with very mixed reactions.

Suicide Squad which is due out in May has many gamers excited but a recent leak showed live service elements like a battle pass.

The revelation was not met with enthusiasm.

Though fans of superhero gaming have options beyond the big two.

Several promising indie superhero games are due out this year, including Superfuse which releases in less than two weeks.

Marvel's Avengers, though winding down, is available to play now on PC, Xbox One and X|S, PS4 and PS5.

Superfuse will release in early access on January 31 on PC (Steam).
