Batman Again
Posted By:

It's almost Batman time again and while we can't muster any enthusiasm for yet another reboot, our news show's ravenous hunger for content is unrelenting.

We must press on.

Thankfully Lifehacker recently published one of those nice everything-you-need-to-know type pieces.

Rather than just lazily referring you to that and calling it a day, we've decided to go slightly Goggleblog on it.

If you thought we’d had enough movies about Batman...

YES!

...I’m sorry friend, you would be wrong

Obviously we knew there was another one or wouldn't have been reading, but thanks for the sympathy.

You may remember once upon a time that Ben Affleck was set to star and direct his own Batman movie. For various reasons that film fell apart...

Seemed like a standard response to a few flops in any franchise - recast and reboot.

Though Ben Affleck hadn't enjoyed being Batman, was fighting alcoholism and stepped away for the sake of his sanity.

... and was replaced by The Batman, which is essentially a standalone reboot of the franchise.

Standalone reboot?

We’ve seen the tragic origin story that turns Bruce Wayne into Batman a million times over...

Maybe more.

...so you’ll be glad to know this film won’t be re-treading that path.

No. The death of his parents isn't what makes reboots exhausting.

It's that they're reboots.

Director Matt Reeves even described it as being “almost a horror movie” as well as a hardcore detective story

Detective isn't that much of a stretch - to fight crime he first has to find it - but horror?

Don't love the sound of that.

The latest news about The Batman is that the film’s runtime will come in at a whopping two hours and 55 minutes.

We're yawning already.

Warner Bros. has been trying to establish a DC cinematic universe to rival the likes of Marvel for years now, but The Batman will not be part of this.

You're either making one big cinematic universe. Or not.

That being said, The Batman has already spawned the development of a new spin-off TV series about the Gotham police and a second spin-off about the Penguin. So while it may not be part of the DCEU, it looks like The Batman will have its own little cinematic universe anyway.

Not.

And then some.

Are there trailers?

Several:

Those and a recent promotion at a major Basketball game in the US are all very impressive despite our lack of enthusiasm.

The Batman releases in Australian cinemas on March 3, with some cinemas offering March 2 advanced screenings.
