Daredevil Reboot?
Posted By:

Industry magazine Production Weekly which reports on films entering production have listed Deadpool 3. Interesting but not a complete surprise given last week's news that Shawn Levy was in talks to direct.

More interesting is the preceding entry in the listing - "Daredevil Reboot". Just a few days after Daredevil and the other Netflix Marvel series joined the MCU on Disney+ in the US.

At The Middle East Film and Comic Con 2022 in Abu Dhabi earlier this month, series star Charlie Cox had this to say:

The only thing I would say is… I don’t think it’s… I don’t think it makes sense to pick up where we left off. I think… in keeping with a lot of things in the MCU right now, where there’s this kind of there’s this alternate reality, kind of thing going on. You know what they did in Spider-Man [No Way Home] and [Into the Spider-Verse]… so it’s a good moment to have this, you know, there’s been… a few years have passed, you know, and now I don’t know it’s Daredevil but maybe there’s it’s not quite… it’s reimagined. It’s slightly different. It’s… you know what I texted one of my friends when I found out this is all happening? ‘It’s born again.’ You know, so it’s like an homage to… so, you know, the sky’s the limit. Let’s see.

Curiously many publications are calling this a potential "soft reboot".

Probably because of the many, well deserved, negative associations with the term "reboot".

But this would be a hard reboot.

The previous series would be relegated to another timeline and effectively erased.

There's nothing soft about that.

Charlie Cox was great in this role but keeping a few of the same actors wouldn't make this any less of a reboot.

Are excited?

No.

Would we watch it?

There's an outside chance.

It sucks that the rights for mutants went to Fox and Spider-Man to Sony, then along came Marvel who started making excellent films.

Films in a single, continuous universe and not rebooting every other week.

Yes we're looking at you Sony and Spider-Man.

Then Disney started gobbling everyone up, re-uniting two of those three, and made nice with Sony, bringing the whole family more or less back together.

If Marvel uses the multiverse as a device to perform a one time only reboot for the sake of being able to move forward cohesively, that might be forgiveable.

Even though as we suggested previously, it wouldn't be necessary.

But until we know what their plans are, our personal interest in the franchise is on hold.

Because there are indications that they intend to make content for separate universes, eg. the X-Men cartoon "reboot" which will be a continuation rather than reboot.
