NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission launched successfully.

You can watch the entire 2 hour NASA livestream or skip foward to the launch just after the 50 minute mark.

Even watching it after the fact it's slightly surreal. This is science fact, not fiction.

If all goes according to plan there shouldn't be much to report until impact with Dimorphos which is due to occur on September 26, 2022.

Fact might feel a lot slower than fiction but it will crash into the asteroid at an impressive 6.6 km/s, or nearly 24,000 km/h.
