DC Drops Doom and Titans
Posted By:

DC's Doom Patrol and Titans series have been cancelled with HBO promising that their currently on hiatus (in the US) fourth seasons were written to provide "proper" endings.

The news wouldn't be super surprising to anyone. Four seasons is a solid run for a superhero show and new bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran had heralded intentions to unify the DC universe.

Instead of the plethora of disconnected series and films, it's set to become one big beast like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With only Robert Pattinson's The Batman universe confirmed to be continuing with films and the Penguin series spin-off.

Greg Berlanti's new deal with DC also potentially favours fewer, higher quality and viewership series than his previous massive spread of low-to-mid budgeters.

DC owners Warner Bros. have also divested themselves of US Network CW which is where many of those titles aired.

Doom Patrol and Titans were among the better and more popular ones so many viewers are likely to be disappointed by their cancellation.

For us it's a relief because we always found Doom Patrol a bit of a chore and now we'll just stop trying to work our way through them.

Titans which stars Ozzie actors Brenton Thwaites and Teagan Croft isn't always great but we've generally found it to be enjoyable and are looking forward to seeing Franka Potenta (Run Lola Run) as a season 4 villain.

It's not often that we'd single out a single character or actor but whether it was acting, directing or writing, season 3's Dr Jonathan Crane (a.k.a. Scarecrow) played by Vincent Kartheiser just wasn't convincingly crazy.

Fingers are crossed that Franka fares better.

Doom Patrol is streaming now on Binge.

Titans is streaming on Netflix, but season 4 hasn't arrived yet.
