Doctoral Gossip
Posted By:

It's not often that we bother to repeat entertainment gossip but The Hollywood Reporter have dropped a small bomb which may confirm one of our own Doctor Who theories - that Jodie Whittaker may have in fact been The Master.

Their speculation is Ncuti Gatwa may also appear with David Tennant in the 2023 anniversary special and that the latter could regenerate into the former.

That doesn't precisely line up with our theory, but is very close.

Our theory is that Missy managed to survive being stabbed by The Master in season 10's The Doctor Falls.

In that episode and the preceding ones, the Doctor had Missy pretending to be the Doctor as a teaching exercise.

To help Missy become a better Time Lord.

Being fatally wounded and regenerating in that state may have resulted in a more extreme form of post-regenerative amnesia, in which she mistakenly believed herself to be the Doctor.

Missy dropped her sonic umbrella before falling, and Jodie Whittaker was without sonic device post regeneration.

She had to build one.

We were never bothered in the slightest by the notion of a female Doctor and Jodie Whittaker played the role perfectly.

But in trying to make sense of the completely uncharacteristic racism in The Flux episodes, we considered the possibility that Jodie wasn't actually the Doctor, and everything fell into line.

Effectively there could now be two Doctor Who's.

That title is self-appointed and the original took it upon himself after deciding he wanted to be a better Time Lord.

There's no reason Missy / The Master couldn't do the same.

We rewatched all of the modern Doctor Who series and our theory fits.

In June there was also report of a freshly unearthed script for a planned but not filmed third Doctor Who film in a series of 1960s films.

That script reportedly included two Doctor Whos, and we postulated this announcement might form part of laying the groundwork for this reveal.

THR also report that Ncuti is expected to begin filming his first season of Doctor Who this November, which will premiere in 2023.
