As Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's Westworld seemingly flounders, we hear casting news for one of their two upcoming Amazon sci-fi series, Fallout.

Kyle MacLachlan who played Paul Atreides in the 1984 Dune film and Quake / Daisy's insane father in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has joined Fallout's cast in an unspecified role.

Having played numerous roles in both film and television he is a proven talent.

And after a long time out in the cold, Dune is a hot sci-fi property courtesy of Denis Villeneuve's 2021 smash hit, making Kyle's earlier appearance in the main role more topical.

This Fallout series is an adaptation of Bethesda's hugely popular post-apocalyptic roleplaying games and Bethesda's Todd Howard serves as one of a number of executive producers on the show.

Though mired in controversy over monetization of some of their more recent titles, Bethesda has a solid history of exceptional story-telling in their games and doubtless are highly motivated for that to carry over to this television series.

The Fallout games are set in a post nuclear war North American dustbowl and includes androids capable of passing as human.

No details about the series' plot have been shared but could retread some familiar ground for Westword's Nolan and Joy.
