Netflix conducted their first day of livestreaming for their annual Geeked Week event celebrating upcoming genre content.

Day One was dedicated to series and while we don't have enough time to watch the full two and a half hour stream, we have looked at all of the new teasers and trailers.

Resident Evil

Netflix had previously shared a pair of teasers, the second of which beautifully showcased the comedic element, but this trailer possibly gives us the best overall impression of the series.

As a fully fledged and high production quality zombie extravaganza.

This one we're looking forward to seeing.

Resident Evil will release on July 14.

The Sandman

In addition to a teaser full of fresh footage, Netflix dished up a release date of August 5 for The Sandman.

It is variously described as sci-fi or fantasy and to our eye appears more the latter but originating from DC comics it's also a little bit superhero.

So it sneaks across the line for us.

And looks very promising.

The Sandman releases on August 5.

The Imperfects

This one wasn't on their schedule and also hadn't been foreshadowed by their beginning of year looking ahead blogpost.

So, surprise!

Was the teaser a good surprise?

As teasers go it and the basic premise seem solid.

Three twenty somethings were turned into monsters by evil scientists against their will. Now they’re on the hunt for the mad-man responsible in hopes of reversing the side-effects… but also they’re being chased by a government agency, dealing with college applications, teenage romance, random monster mutations, and all of sorts of coming of age related dramas. Oh, and the government agency has tanks.

Our curiosity is piqued.

The Imperfects hasn't been given a precise release date but is slated for this year.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities

It's not perfectly clear from the teaser if this horror anthology series is properly sci-fi but Guillermo del Toro tends to lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy and among the many high calibre cast we spotted our own Essie Davis (aka Miss Phryne Fisher).

So we'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Horror isn't a genre we're especially enamoured with but we might, in the full light of day, give this one a chance.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is due to release this year.

Warrior Nun

If you're familiar with our blog you'd know that we're open to religious themes in entertainment but not proselytization.

Where does Warrior Nun fall on that spectrum?

We're not sure yet but with a title like Warrior Nun even if this turns out to be church propoganda, no-one could claim it to be stealthy.

Season one was an interesting ride with some genuinely unexpected twists.

Including getting a little bit sci-fi which you can also see in this teaser.

Must confess that we didn't follow the teaser terribly well.

We only watched the first season once and the story was sufficiently complex that we only broadly remember it and the characters.

Warrants a rewatch at some point.

Season 2 of Warrior Nun will premiere this summer (Oz).

All of Us Are Dead

There's not much to this one - almost nothing really - except the announcement of a second season.

Not very surprising given its critic and viewer reception but also not a given in the context of rampant Netflix cutbacks.

So welcome news for many, we're sure.

Season 2 of All of Us Are Dead has no ETA at this time.

Sweet Tooth

Also not much to this one - just a season 2 filming wrap video.

But we're big fans of the first season so have the very highest hopes of the second.

Season 2 of Sweet Tooth doesn't have an ETA but they have billed it as "coming soon" so possibly we'll see it this year.

There is reportedly very high demand for post filming production work so this series might presently be waiting in line.
