Deadline have foreshadowed former X-Files writer and producer, Breaking Bad and spin-off Better Caul Saul creator, writer and executive producer Vince Gilligan preparing to bring his next project to the market.

Which will hearken back to his days on the X-Files and be something in a similar vein to The Twilight Zone.

It is said to be set in our world while putting a tweak on it, focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way.

Thought-provoking but not a morality tale, the new show is expected to carry the signature Gilligan tone that infuses drama with humor.

The major US networks and also streaming platforms are keenly interested.

As are we.

On paper a show about a chemistry teacher turned drug lord had no appeal to us, but one of our housemates watched it.

We caught some over the shoulder, so to speak, and it was engrossing.

Ended up watching nearly all of it and it was outside factors which interrupted our viewing rather than dip in quality or lack of interest.

He makes terrific television.

Deadline are careful to describe his new series as being more drama than sci-fi but contemplating what a content creator of his calibre could bring to a show like this is exciting.

His pitch is expected to be made in the coming weeks so we may have more details soon.
