Hot Extrapolations
Posted By:

Though we do our best to keep across upcoming sci-fi content, this one crept up on and took us by surprise - a big budget all star cast Apple TV anthology series casting us decades into the future to get up close and personal with climate change.

Extrapolations, written, directed and executive produced by Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns. Trailer available.

Extrapolations is a bracing drama from writer, director and executive producer Scott Z. Burns that introduces a near future where the chaotic effects of climate change have become embedded into our everyday lives. Eight interwoven stories about love, work, faith and family from across the globe will explore the intimate, life-altering choices that must be made when the planet is changing faster than the population. Every story is different, but the fight for our future is universal. And when the fate of humanity is up against a ticking clock, the battle between courage and complacency has never been more urgent. Are we brave enough to become the solution to our own undoing before it’s too late?

The series stars Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Diane Lane, Tahar Rahim, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer, Adarsh Gourav, Keri Russell, Marion Cotillard, Forest Whitaker, Eiza González, Murray Bartlett, Indira Varma, Tobey Maguire, MaameYaa Boafo, Hari Nef, Heather Graham, Michael Gandolfini, Cherry Jones, Gaz Choudhry, Ben Harper, Judd Hirsch and Neska Rose.

We saw Contagion long before COVID, remember it as a great film and weren't surprised by the renewed interest in it during the pandemic.

Gotta say though, this trailer tickles our B grade nerve.

Totally on board with global warming being human made and requiring urgent human remedy.

Great message.

Can be hard to judge from trailers but this one feels slightly overcooked.

Pun unintended but we decided to allow it.

Scott C. Burns doesn't have much directing experience - just two films (not Contagion) and one episode of Californication.

Hell of a cast though and superb talent can sometimes rise above mediocrities in the production mix.

Didn't recognise any Aussies in there but we had a quick look and there is one - Murray Bartlett - who we saw on screen just recently in as Frank in The Last of Us episode three alongside Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation).

And before that a long acting history stretching all the way back to recurring roles in both Home and Away (Randy Evans) and Neighbours (Luke Foster).

Thought Frank looked a bit familiar.

Albeit not with great expectations, we'll give this one a look.

Extrapolations premiere's with three episodes on Apple TV on March 17 with the remaining five releasing weekly.
