We watch and enjoy a lot of Netflix content, and if anything, their promos sometimes make titles appear better than they are.

Hot Skull's teaser didn't impress us and now its trailer has left us scratching our heads.

Even knowing the series premise:

In a dystopian world, as an epidemic spreads through verbal communication, a tyrannical institution pursues a linguist immune to the disease.

All we see in the trailer is a random collection of scenes accompanied by heavily recycled dialog like:

You have no idea who you're dealing with.

and

Let's finish what we started.

So it seems like they've taken an original and potentially fascinating idea - a verbal plague - and given it the B grade factory knock-off treatment.

Shame.

As parody that might have worked but this is labelled "gritty".

Hot Skull releases on Netflix on December 2.
