It's Ok to Go Pee
Posted By:

So says James Cameron in an interview with Empire Magazine about one of the most highly and also long anticipated film sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water.

That's not in reference to the film's title - though we expect it will inspire jokes - but rather the film's three hour length.

Which is longer than the average film but not that much longer than the original's 160 minutes.

I don’t want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch [television] for eight hours. I can almost write this part of the review. ‘The agonisingly long three-hour movie…’ It’s like, give me a fucking break. I’ve watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row. Here’s the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: it’s okay to get up and go pee.

Length is a standard which is being challenged in television, eg. The Orville.

Why not film?

We don't object to a three hour film but if you pay money to go and see one, you want to see all of it.

If you leave to pee, return and ask someone what you missed you potentially disturb other movie-goers.

So we're not sure his way of water is for everyone.

Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in Australian cinemas on December 15.
