Warner Bros. have released a new poster for The Matrix Resurrections via Twitter.

It looks very Matrix, with an older Keanu.

Some might have reservations about seeing this one because of Jupiter Ascending.

Maybe the Wachowskis got lucky with The Matrix? Maybe they're one hit wonders? Maybe they got old and lost their edge?

We don't think so.

The Wachowskis have a long history of making excellent though sometimes niche films.

In the case of The Matrix, their talent combined with bleeding edge special effects and the perfect story to deliver a phenomenal hit.

Followed by two almost equally good sequels in an industry where most sequels are expected to be terrible.

Jupiter Ascending released in 2015 just a few years after the very successful Twilight films ran their course. What's likely is that either film executives or the Wachowskis decided to try to recreate Twilight in sci-fi.

From that perspective they probably succeeded.

Unfortunately, Jupiter Asending wasn't marketed honestly as a soppy romance novel in a sci-fi setting. Rather as a sci-fi blockbuster by the directors of The Matrix.

We wouldn't bet the farm on this one or even just the veggie patch but we're open to the possibility that even half of the Wachowskis can recreate the magic of the original.

The Matrix Resurrections releases in Australian Cinemas on December 26.
