Moonfall Manfest

In an Entertainment Tonight Online exlusive, Moonfall's Roland Emmerich has revealed that Halle Berry's character was originally to be a man.

Then he made a "relatively conscious decision" to consider female actors for the role.

"It was kind of a relatively conscious decision at one point," he explained. "You know, it was more male-oriented and then we kind of said to ourselves, 'Why can't it be a woman?' And then you say, 'Who's kind of cool in a way [that works for this film?],' and then we come relatively fast to Halle Berry because she's a little bit older and she has done a lot of stuff. And she was the first person to be approached and immediately said, 'Yes.'"

It immediately struck as odd that anyone would imagine a film like this today as a complete sausagefest.

On the other hand this demonstrates how easy it is for content creators to consider diversity during development and do better.

So cheers to Roland for sharing.

Interestingly Halle revealed that she's not interested in going into space for real but for an easy to appreciate reason - she has young children and wouldn't want to take that risk.

Moonfall releases today in Australian cinemas.
