Morbius Lore Vignette
Posted By:

Sony have released what we would describe as a poorly described "lore vignette" for upcoming anti-hero vampire film, Morbius.

You'd expect that to reveal some information about the character of Morbius, but instead it's a very short commentary on the character's debut in a Spider-Man comic following the lifting of a supernatural characters ban.

That debut was in 1971 and followed the lifting of a ban put in place by the Comics Book Code of 1954, General standards Part B :

(5) Scenes dealing with, or instruments associated with walking dead, torture, vampires and vampirism, ghouls, cannibalism, and werewolfism are prohibited.

Weird.

Looking over other prohibitions in the Code the intent behind them is quite obvious.

Unless it's sexual? To deter necrophilia.

That's a topic I wasn't expecting to touch on when I pressed play on this trailer, though in modern fiction vampires and romance often go hand in hand.

Morbius releases in Australian cinemas on March 31.
