Joyous news. Netflix have renewed The Umbrella Academy for a fourth and final season.

It's always sad when a great show ends but as we remarked in June, season 4 feels like a natural ending point for this brilliant story.

Science fiction television is littered with unresolved one season wonders and shows which either don't go far enough or in some cases, too far.

We love Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and were happy to see more but its season 5 finale would have made a much better ending for the series.

Though The Umbrella Academy's ending won't be the end for series creator, showrunner and executive producer Steve Blackman who has signed on for two new Netflix sci-fi series.

Horizon Zero Dawn - based on the post-apocalyptic action roleplaying games set in a world full of robo-dinosaurs.

He names Michelle Lovretta as his writing partner - we noticed her name in the credits for several Umbrella season 3 episodes - and that bodes extremely well.

If you're in the market for deliciously original and occasionally hilarious dialog, she's the ticket.

Killjoys is one of hers. Definitely worth watching.

Orbital sounds like it will be more drama than sci-fi but set in space aboard the International Space Station.

With the station due to be decommissioned in the near future and commercial space efforts beginning to really take off, that could be a great setting for a dramatic series.

Seasons one to three of The Umbrella Academy are streaming now on Netflix with no ETA on the final fourth.
