Netflix Now With Numbers

Undisputed king of streaming services, Netflix, have launched a new website called Netflix Top 10.

The title is largely self-explanatory.

Both globally and by region the site lists the 10 most watched Films and TV series, separately for English and non-English titles. Of all time and for the preceding week.

Including how many hours they've been watched and how many weeks they've spent in the top 10.

Not just going forward from now. This goes back to June 28, 2021.

A number of third-party companies like Nielsen have reported ratings as a measure by which we can judge a free-to-air title's success. Those are based on a small representative group of viewers.

In the case of streaming services, the service providers themselves have access to actual viewing numbers. But rarely share those numbers unless they're fabulously glowing.

By self-reported measures, Netflix has 51% reach in the US. Prime, Hulu and Disney trail at 33%, 32% and 25% respectively.

Total viewing hours - which Netflix now report - will understandably be bigger than anyone else's.

Makes PR sense to put those out there.

If other providers don't, then consumers are going to ask why?

If other providers do, then consumers are going to see that their numbers are smaller.
