Netflix with Ads

In order to beat Disney to the finish line, Netflix have moved up plans to introduce a new ad-supported tier from next year to this November.

Whether Australia will be included in that November rollout isn't known.

Disney's plan is to substantially increase subscription fees but introduce an ad-supported tier at the existing lowest price in December.

It's pay more or you get ads.

Netflix plans to introduce a lower priced - than the existing lowest price tier - ad-supported tier.

If you don't mind ads you can downgrade to save some money.

That's a much softer sell.

A superior carrot.

Though one of Netflix's goals with this new tier is to stop the practice of password sharing - people in different households using the same Netflix account to access content.

In the absence of some kind of stick or other measures to prevent it, we'd expect most people to simply keep password sharing.
