Universal have released a trailer for their mysterious upcoming sci-fi horror film, Nope.

This Super Bowl trailer is the first footage they've released for it and it succeeds in terrifying.

The first half paints a seemingly normal picture of some Hollywood horse trainers on a ranch.

Then things start to get weird and increasingly scary.

In ways we don't often see.

Sci-fi thrills tend to lurk in darkened corridors, vents, pipes etc.

These scares are in an open landscape and sometimes glaring sunlight.

Nope releases in Australian cinemas on August 4.
