Not Exactly Stargate News
Posted By:

In a curious confluence we found three news stories today which sadly aren't about the long-hoped revival of that beloved TV franchise, but which relate to it.

Space.com published a potentially confusing piece regarding the fate of the long-ago announced plans for Roland Emmerich to reboot the Stargate films.

"Uh, it won't happen," Emmerich said of a "Stargate" reboot. "That won't happen because I thought that the people who watch the TV show are the main fans, and to make a movie after 25 years which has the same characters, it's not possible. Right? ... And so I decided not to do it, but I hope that somebody's redoing Stargate and starts a real series of movies.

Yes, the fanbase grew around the TV series much moreso than the film so the idea of erasing the TV series and remaking the film was ill conceived.

But he later says:

"If they go back to a [Stargate] movie and a series of movies, yes, I will be involved. I have to be involved because it's in my contract," Emmerich says.

So is he saying that he wouldn't direct another Stargate film but has the contractual power to be involved in some fashion?

What's on Netflix published an article on upcoming Netflix animated superhero series, The Guardians of Justice.

There's not a lot of information we can provide other than the synopsis:

“The alien superhero MARVELOUS MAN has kept the earth at peace for 40 years. But when a devastating secret and its tragic consequences throws our world into chaos, it’s up to Marvelous Man’s bitter, violent lieutenant KNIGHT HAWK and idealistic do-gooder THE SPEED to stop nuclear war. A dark satire of the superhero genre, Guardians of Justice mixes live action with traditional animation, claymation, cut out paper animation, and 8-bit video game footage in a kaleidoscope of pop art insanity.”

And the fact that Christopher Judge - Stargate's Teal'c - is one of the voice cast.

Speaking of former Stargate cast now appearing in other things, Claudia Black - Stargate's Vala - stars in the indie sci-fi film, Deus.

A mysterious black sphere is discovered in the orbit of Mars. The Achilles is sent to investigate. After the bedraggled six-person crew wake from eight months hibernation, the Sphere is transmitting a single word in every Earth language ever known - Deus.

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the term, deus is Latin for god.

The Guardians of Justice premieres on Netflix on March 1 and Deus is expected to release this year.
