Orville Interview
Posted By:

TrekMovie.com have published an interview with The Orville writer / executive producers Brannan Braga and David A. Goodman, and director / executive producer Jon Cassar.

They definitively reiterate that The Orville hasn't been cancelled.

Just this week we saw Deadline describe this as the third and final season, albeit with a "for now" qualifier.

Confusion on this topic may stem from two of the main cast - Adrianne Palicki and Scott Grimes - separately describing this as the final season.

But officially it's not.

A fourth season hasn't been confirmed but is still possible.

Speaking on this season's longer episode lengths we also learn that the cumulative run-time of this 11 episode season is equivalent to 16 typical 42 minute episodes.

There are no two-parters but one episode runs for 85 minutes.

What do they do with all of this extra time?

Jon Cassar : So they have the time to do what we call “shoe leather,” where it’s just visually telling the story. And in our case, we use it when we go to a new planet. It used to be like one or two shots flying in. Now there’s five or six and you get to really see what this planet looks like. And that’s world-building.

Sounds great in theory.

They were also asked about more Star Trek cameos.

David Goodman : Let me think, I can’t remember.

Can't remember?

Seriously?

Jon Cassar :  We do have one big cameo from a big sci-fi franchise.

It's "way bigger" than Bruce Boxleightner from Babylon 5 who we've already seen in an early promotional photo (above) - the blue fellow on the left.

The Orville: New Horizons will premiere on SBS on Demand on June 3 with new episodes releasing weekly.

Seasons one and two of The Orville are available now on SBS on Demand and also Disney+.
