Nominees for The 94th Academy Awards have been announced and largely thanks to Dune, sci-fi is well represented.

Dune came overall second for number of nominations with ten behind The Power of the Dog with twelve.

As with the BAFTAs Dune was nominated for best film, screenplay, score and every production category, but missed out for directing and acting.

Dune's complete list of nominations:

• Best Original Score
• Best Sound
• Best Production Design
• Best Cinematography
• Best Makeup and Hairstyling
• Best Costume Design
• Best Film Editing
• Best Visual Effects

Don't Look Up snagged four nominations:

• Best Picture
• Best Original Screenplay
• Best Original Score
• Best Film Editing

The Mitchells vs. the Machines received a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.

Joining Dune as nominees for Best Visual Effects are several other sci-fi titles, Free Guy, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The 94th Academy Awards will be presented on March 27.
