Amazon have released a very short teaser for their upcoming Paper Girls series.

Which only scratches the surface of what we've suggested could be one of the more thought-provoking sci-fi series on the way to our screens.

The accompanying synopsis:

It's the day after Halloween in 1988 when four young friends accidentally stumble into an intense time war and find themselves inexplicably transported to the year 2019. When they come face-to-face with their adult selves, each girl discovers her own strengths as together they try to find a way back to the past while saving the world of the future.

Paper Girls will premiere on Prime Video on July 29.

That might be cleverly timed to take advantage of appetite for 80s nostalgia and sci-fi whipped up by Stranger Things with the second instalment of its fourth season releasing on July 1.

If Paper Girls is good.

Netflix blew an average $30 million per episode on this season of Stranger Things and audiences will necessarily compare the two.
