Picard No More

In an interview with SFX Magazine, as reported by SlashFilm, Patrick Stewart has confirmed that season 3 will be Star Trek: Picard's last.

This is possibly not surprising.

Consecutive seasons being filmed back to back, as were Picard's second and third, is sometimes done when a show is officially or unofficially cancelled.

Good news for those who watch it - which is not us - is that it will have an actual ending rather than a desperate cliffhanger intended to force a renewal.

Those only make a show less satisfying and likely to be recommended to others or rewatched.

We suspect that Picard was intended as a gateway drug.

Plonk one of the franchise's most beloved characters in the midst of the kind of silly drama which fans didn't love in Discovery and magically everyone will love Discovery.

Or not.

Discovery's Section 31 spinoff is in a permanent state of delay. We suspect unofficially cancelled.

At some point they can lament that talented and in demand Michelle Yeoh understandably accepted other job offers and is now far too busy to do Section 31, and it just wouldn't be the same without her.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard premieres on March 3 on Amazon Prime.
