Pluto Peek

Just now we spoke of another trailer tickling our B grade nerve. Netflix's "sneak peak" at upcoming anime film Pluto kicked our WTF-nerve.

We regard speaking to our computer screen as somewhat gauche but those three words erupted nonetheless.

Admittedly we aren't anime aficionados.

Ghost in the Shell is a long-time fave but we've seen nothing else in that style of the same calibre.

Content wise, "sneak peaks" vary but this is the first time we've seen a clip montage with musical accompaniment.

Typically it's continuous footage. With dialog.

Not watching animated mouths moving and wondering WTF is this?

Stopped half way (two minutes) through.

This is based on a well known and awarded manga and perhaps fans of that will be mad for this.

You wouldn't guess what it's about from this footage or the complete lack of description attached to the sneak peak but it is:

Famous for his military service in the 39th Asian War, the legendary Swiss robot Montblanc is violently murdered. Humans and robots around the world mourn for the beloved celebrity. Montblanc’s popularity only grew in the years following the war, thanks to his dedication to nature conservation and his loving personality.

Once a fellow war veteran, robotic Europol detective Gesicht is sent to investigate Montblanc’s tragic demise. In his pursuit, Gesicht uncovers evidence of a mysterious entity known only as “Pluto.” He also learns of a conspiratorial plot to dismantle the eight specialized robots from around the world who participated in the war. Racing against time to save those who still remain, Gesicht grapples with his memory, morality, and a world full of hate, desperately attempting to defend the fragile coexistence of man and machine.

Even though this is our job, we feel like Netflix just wasted two minutes of our viewing time.

On the other hand, with the latest Marvel blockbuster in cinemas (Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania) and a new Harry Potter video game (Hogwarts Legacy), trailers are in short supply right now.

We probably won't watch this one but cheers for giving us trailer content Netflix.

Pluto is coming to Netflix in 2023.
