Quantic Dream Acquired
Posted By:

Hounded by controversy French game developer Quantic Dream, who are making the upcoming Star Wars: Eclipse game, have officially been acquired by Chinese tech giant Netease.

This follows an insider report of acquisition talks back in March.

That's generically interesting on the corporate game developer ownership front.

And potentially good news for the Star Wars game.

Reportedly the studio has had difficulty hiring staff, because of the widely publicised allegations of sexual harassment and other workplace problems.

You're unlikely to see any media article about this studio or game without a reference to those.

Worst case scenario if they're unable to hire enough people to get development moving, Netease can play corporate musical chairs.

Merge Quantic with another studio or just disband them, and continue development of the game minus the embattled Quantic moniker.

Good news for Star Wars gamers.

Though maybe less so for Disney if our theory about their choice of Quantic is true - that Disney specifically sought partnership with Quantic because of their situation.

As an implicit stance against cancel culture.

Because if Quantic is properly devoured and passes into history, that would just leave Star Wars: Eclipse in the hands of a Chinese tech giant.
