Quantum Leap

In the US Quantum Leap will be leaping back onto screens after a 29 year absence on September 19.

As you would expect there are advertisements and some of those are making their way online - we have a Desert Storm paratrooper and an 80s female rock singer.

During its 97 episode run, the original series only saw Sam Beckett leap into nine female bodies and the first of those in its second season:

Samantha Stormer in Quantum Leap: What Price Gloria? - October 16, 1961 (1989), Linda Bruckner in Quantum Leap: Another Mother - September 30, 1981 (1990), Darlene Monte in Quantum Leap: Miss Deep South - June 7, 1958 (1990), Billie Jean Crockett in Quantum Leap: 8½ Months - November 15, 1955 (1991), Katie McBain in Quantum Leap: Raped - June 20, 1980 (1991), Cheree in Quantum Leap: A Song for the Soul - April 7, 1963 (1992), Margaret Sanders in Quantum Leap: Liberation - October 16, 1968 (1993), Dr. Ruth Westheimer in Quantum Leap: Dr. Ruth - April 25, 1985 (1993), and Liz Tate in Quantum Leap: Revenge of the Evil Leaper - September 16, 1987 (1993).

Twenty-nine years is an age in television and present day audiences are less much finicky about gender.

RuPaul just won her / his seventh consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.

Congrats to you Ru!

So we're not surprised to see a female leap showcased in early promos.

We still don't know when this modern Quantum Leap will make its way down under but we are expecting free-to-air networks to bid for it.
