Gameplay footage for the Resident Evil 4 remake releasing this month is circulating and it has fans excited for showcasing gameplay improvements over the original.

This isn't one of those remakes with only improved graphics. Telling the same story they've recrafted it for present day gamers.

Having just confessed to being a dimension snob and possibly missing out on some worthy 2D titles, we'll also confess to generally not being super impressed by or interested in remakes.

Assuming we had the time and money, we'd either have played whatever is being remade already and not need to re-experience it or would be just as uninterested in a remake as we were the original.

But gaming is increasingly becoming a mainstream medium for storytelling and many great stories have been told during the relatively short history of video gaming alongside massive strides in both technology and design.

To connect with present day audiences, titles even one or two decades old might need a remake exactly like this one.

And that could be especially important for big franchises like Resident Evil with serial games.

The latest one comes out and you haven't played any of the earlier.

Are you going to get full value jumping into a new one without having played the full series?

Do you want to spend possibly dozens or more hours slogging through those older games?

There's real value in remakes.

We haven't played any of the Resident Evil games but the buzz surrounding these changes is very positive.

The original Resident Evil 4 released in 2005 originally on the Nintendo Gamecube and was later ported to many other platforms.

Its remake will release on PC (Steam), Xbox X|S, and PlayStation 4 and 5 on March 24.
