Ripout at Gamescom

It's a day for unusual games.

Before seeing Glaciered which impressed our socks clean off, we saw Ripout's trailer and though it wasn't as impactful several of its features made our eyes go wide.

FYI their trailer isn't new - it's from last year - but they're attending Gamescom in Cologne in August with the promise of a playable demo.

Ripout is a co-op horror first-person shooter and those are plentiful.

But we couldn't call this standard.

Beginning with players, your gun is customisable sentient biotech and effectively both a weapon and pet / companion.

In the trailer it looks like it leaps off the players arm to latch onto one enemy.

Steam lists another infesting feature:

High Variety of Reconfigurable Monsters

Sure.

We know what that is.

Some kind of config or mod system which allows players to customise enemies.

Wrong.

Fight genetically altered beings who are able to strengthen and reconfigure themselves by attaching smaller mutants to their bodies. The player will never know what to expect from their enemies!

Seen in the trailer.

That's a hell of an idea.

Horror first person shooters aren't really our idea of a good time but if we had to play one this would be a very strong contender.

Ripout is scheduled to release this year on PC (Steam) and the game will be playable at Gamescom in Cologne August 24-28.

It is also being developed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
