Nominations for this year's Saturn Awards have been announced and they're a bit odd.

For example, Doctor Who has been nominated for Best Fantasy Television Series.

Last year they considered it sci-fi.

We can only imagine the reaction among BBC execs.

Proper wars may have been started over lesser slights.

For all that we couldn't tolerate our beloved Doctor Who's descent into racism, it's most certainly still sci-fi.

If any show deserves to be bumped over to fantasy it's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but no, that nabbed a nomination for Best Science Fiction Series (Streaming).

This year's awards have also expanded far beyond science fiction, horror and even fantasy.

West Side Story received two nominations.

On the local front, Cate Blanchett received a Best Actress nomination for Nightmare Alley.

Best of luck to Cate - she's grand - and also The Orville which is up for Best Science Fiction Series (Streaming) but this year's spread being what it is, it might be hard for some sci-fi fans to take them seriously.

The winners are scheduled to be announced in a livestreamed event on October 25.
