Shatner Owned by Fans

Crowdfunding, eg. through sites like Kickstarter who retain a cut of the funds raised, has has made a significant impact on the entertainment industry but our beloved Bill wants to take it further and also away from the middle man.

A new documentary about his career will be financed entirely by fans who will own a share of revenue made by the film.

Bill says:

For years I’ve had people approaching me to do a documentary about my life, but I turned them all down because it didn’t feel like the right fit. Alexandre and I hit off right away, and when I heard how Legion M wanted to incorporate audiences to be a part of it, it was perfect. Fans have been responsible for my career — it only seems right that they should own this doc.

Legion M, a fan owned entertainment company, will produce the documentary and are accepting non-binding reservations via their own website.

Reservation holders will be the first to be alerted once the offering opens, and will be given priority consideration if it sells out. Reservations are non-binding -- there is no obligation if you change your mind.

A preview of footage will be shared at the San-Diego Comic-Con this month.

We hadn't heard of Legion M before this but they were one of the production companies behind the excellent but financially unsuccessful Colossal, starring Anne Hathaway.

If you want to check out Colossal - which we do recommend - it's available to stream on Netflix, Binge, Foxtel Now and SBS on Demand.
