SnyderVerse Scrutiny
Posted By:

Rolling Stone have published an article which paints a sinister picture of the social media foundations underpinning former Warner Bros. director Zack Snyder.

It's moderately explosive, detailing evidence of fake accounts and suggests that Warner Bros. suffered significant financial damage as a result.

At this site we have on several occasions expressed disbelief at the "popular wisdom" that his version of Justice League is superior to Whedon's and repeated Variety's view that his Army of the Dead winning the new favourite Oscars category might be indicative of the vigour of his social media supporters rather than reflecting and representing the sentiments of film viewers.

We don't hate him but have seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his Justice League cut.

It doesn't matter how loudly or widely love of those films or him is shouted, we know a bad movie when we see it.

That said, we did enjoy his earlier Watchmen.

The Rolling Stone piece is well written and we're not going to try to summarise it.

Though we will pick up on one point - their description of the circumstances surrounding Joss Whedon's hiring to take over on Justice League.

None of the backstage drama surrounding Whedon’s hiring had surfaced in the press at the time.

We never believed the official story - Snyder stepping down for personal reasons.

Dealing with the death of a child is credible grounds for stepping away from any job but the film itself always looked like Whedon had inherited a complete mess.

A view reinforced by the later Snyder cut.

So we also find this aspect of Rolling Stone's article easy to believe.
