Disney have announced they’re shutting down their Star Wars themed hotel at the end of September.

The Florida-based Galactic Starcruiser offered an immersive experience with guests able to mingle with wookies and storm troopers, try their hand with a light-saber and even help fly the starship.

That level of interactivity doesn’t come cheap, with the number of rooms capped at 100 and prices at nearly US$5,000 for a pair of guests over a two-night experience.

Despite slashing prices in response to slipping demand, the pressure of high living costs in the overall economy and corporate cost-cutting within Disney spelled the end of the ambitious project.

Bookings are no longer being accepted and the Galactic Starcruiser hosts its final guests at the end of September.
