Former Doctor Whos (excluding Eccleston) returning for the series' 60th anniversary next year wouldn't surprise anyone.

But the BBC has announced that both David Tennant and Catherine Tate will return.

The last time we saw Donna / Tate, the Doctor had freshly wiped her memory and informed her family that if she ever remembered him she would die.

Of course with time travel there's the obvious loophole - the Doctor could meet up with Donna before the memory wipe.

And this is sci-fi. Nothing is really impossible. Even if the Doctor says it is.

The same Doctor left previous companion Rose in an alternate universe with a duplicate him (kind of) with the warning that it would be impossible for her to ever return to her native universe.

Which she later returned to.

We'll next see Doctor Who in Jodie Whittaker's final episode which is scheduled for October.
