In a just published Gamescom interview with game director Glen Schofield, Glen let slip an unexpected new detail about upcoming survival horror game The Callisto Protocol.

You'll have a follower.

Talking about how this game differs from his earlier survival horror Dead Space, he said:

The character does a lot of talking, there's a follower, there's other characters in the game, so it should feel different.

Most likely this will be the presently unnamed cellmate of the main character, voiced by Karen Fukuhara (The Boys).

For the benefit of non-gamers, followers aren't just digital stalkers.

They're also commonly called companions because they're on your side and typically assist you in combat and sometimes also solving puzzles.

At its most basic that puzzle solving can be something like asking your follower to go stand on a pressure plate to open a door, allowing your character to pass through.

But can be more interesting than that.

A huge chunk of the horror factor of survival games is that you are on your own versus a very hostile world.

So this news might disappoint some fans.

On the other hand it introduces the potential for more sophisticated combat and puzzle play.

When asked for more detail he deferred, suggesting that he had inadvertently revealed too much and that the next set of trailers would touch on this.

We want to know more and will be keeping an eye out for those trailers.

The Callisto Protocol will launch this year on December 2 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
