The 100 Prequel Canned

TV Line report that US TV network The CW have decided to pass on The 100 prequel.

Warner Bros. could try to find another service to pick it up but there's no information about that right now.

It's a shame.

The 100 was one of those rare shows which very obviously targeted the young adult audience but whose excellent stories and dialog meant that it could still be enjoyed by older viewers.

So why was the prequel canned?

TV Line don't say but it could just be bad timing.

There's a shortage of film and tv crew and COVID safety measured have also increased production costs. What was financially viable two years ago - when the prequel was approved - might not be today.

The CW is also one of the smaller US networks who screen titles which wouldn't draw a big enough crowd on the major networks.

They're niche and have long hosted some great sci-fi and fantasy series.

But since Game of Thrones proved that niche genres like fantasy can be cool, popular and a runaway financial success, the market is becoming increasingly crowded with big budget competitors for their content and viewers.

It might not be the best time to move forward with somthing like this.
