The Ark for SyFy

SyFy have ordered a new sci-fi series titled The Ark with executive producers Dean Devlin (StargateIndependence Day, The Librarians, The Outpost) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1, Falling Skies, The Outpost).

Wasting no time at all - that's nice - it goes into production in March.

The synopsis:

The story is set 100 years in the future at a time when planetary colonization missions have become a necessity to secure the survival of the human race. The series follows the crew of the Ark One after they encounter a disaster on their mission with more than a year left to go before reaching their destination. They’ll grapple with a lack of life-sustaining supplies and a leadership vacuum, forcing the remaining crew to become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and stay alive.

There's nothing original in that but sci-fi fans lamenting the dark, gritty and too often straight up crazy turns which Stargate and Star Trek both took might find some appeal in the more inspirational tone of this.

The synopsis reminds me a little of another show I absolutely loved. Great drama/mystery scifi with a fantastic twist, but panned by thoes wanting action/adventure/laserspewpewpew scifi. https://trakt.tv/shows/ascension

I quite enjoyed that one and was disappointed it didn't get a second season.

It was a great twist and one I didn't see coming.
