The Flux is Coming

So says Doctor Who, with her trademark ominous gravity in a new trailer which appears to be a more complete version of last week's one.

And they're not alone:

The Flux is coming. It’s bringing with it the Sontarans, Weeping Angels, creatures known as The Ravagers and enemies from across the universe. This is the fight of our lives.

Two old enemies and at least two new. With the entire season dedicated to a single storyline it's not surprising that she'll be facing multiple enemies working together.

Or are they new? We thought to check. While we've only watched the TV series we are aware of additional content in other media.

Indeed perhaps The Ravagers aren't.

This review of the audio Ravagers series describes them as an evil gaming business empire who provide rich clientele with an ultra realistic, immersive video gaming experience. Of the potentially deadly variety.

Remember that the first of these trailers was aired on BBC sort of just wedged in between two programs, as a warning from the Doctor to us.

And the Sontaran vessel was projected onto the pier's head in Liverpool.

Both crossing that line between fiction and reality.

But in this trailer The Doctor calls them "creatures".

The aforementioned review describes them thus:

The monsters of the plays, the titular Ravagers, don’t really make much of an appearance in these episodes. Though they are largely absent from proceedings, their presence is still felt very strongly throughout.

Their use of "monsters" here strikes us as metaphoric but perhaps they hit the mark.

Now with an October 31 release date (UK; Oz still unconfirmed), we don't have too long to wait to find out.
