The New Who
Posted By:

At the very tail end of a quiet-as-a-mouse sci-fi news week, when everyone else took a break to avoid competing with juggernauts Star Wars and Marvel, the BBC have revealed our next Doctor Who.

The role will pass from Jodie Whittaker - who we feel performed brilliantly even if the show itself took a few wrong turns - to Rwandan born Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, best known as Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education.

A role for which he has received three BAFTA nominations and won one Scottish BAFTA.

Ncuti announced the news crytpically via Instagram with a post of two hearts (Time Lord Anatomy 101), a plus sign and a blue box (i.e. Tardis).

His appointment as the fourteenth Doctor was also officially confirmed by the BBC.

Interestingly Russell T Davies revealed that his was the last audition:

It was our last audition. It was our very last one. We thought we had someone, and then in he came and stole it.

I'm properly, properly thrilled. It's going to be a blazing future.

Impressive.

Congratulations to Ncuti for nabbing arguably sci-fi's tastiest role.

He'll debut in that role in 2023.
