US FTC Investigate Sony
Posted By:

Sony's proposed $3.6 billion (US) acquisition of game developer Bungie will be the subject of a US Federal Trade Commission anti-trust investigation.

When the deal was announced Bungie released a statement to the effect that their games, present (eg. Destiny 2) and future, would not become Sony (i.e. Playstation) exclusives but the FTC has doubts.

It is generally believed that regardless of what they find, the FTC's investigation won't stop the acquisition, though it will delay it by up to half a year.

We don't question the legitimacy of the FTC's concerns.

These or others in relation to the growing trend of game developers being swallowed up by mega-corps.

But our interest being sci-fi entertainment, we have suggested that this acquisition was also possibly with a mind for Sony to produce film or television adaptations of Destiny 2.

Which would now also be delayed.
