Ion Sci-Fi keeps an eye on sci-fi entertainment and anything related, with news, views and reviews every week
If you're the kind of person who would enjoy wearing your Starfleet uniform to do the grocery shopping, this might be the news you've been waiting for.
Sci-fi is now officially in fashion according to one of the industry's heavyweights.
Another one for January 27 is the premiere of season 2 of sci-fi comedy Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk of Firefly flame, on 9 Now.
Which we're getting at the same time as everyone else. That has become the norm for streaming services, which are global, but local free-to-air channels are their own masters.
On January 27, Danish sci-fi teen thriller Chosen will release on Netflix.
It was created and is executive produced by Christian Potalivo and Jannik Tai Mosholt who were behind The Rain which Netflix describe as one of their most watched non-Enligsh language series.
Rotten Tomatoes have published their 2021 Golden Tomato Awards - which are awarded based on critic review scores - and sci-fi fared moderately well at the winner level but less so in ranked listings of runners up, except for Best New Series and Best Animated series.
Interestingly RT also give the public the opportunity to vote for their favourites which will be announced on January 31.
About a week ago, Eternals became available on Disney+.
We haven't had the opportunity to watch it in full yet but have seen the first half hour and it doesn't impress. Not that our expectations were high based on its low critic scores at cinema release, which have dropped even further since then from 71% to 48%.
Paramount have announced renewals for Star Trek's Discovery, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks.
Also premiere dates for Picard (March 3) and Strange New Worlds (May 5).

Officially described as a "workplace thriller" it is set in a company where some employees volunteer to undergo a surgical procedure to sever their work and personal life memories.
Marvel have released the official trailer for their upcoming miniseries, Moon Knight, with the accompanying description being "Welcome to chaos".
Chaos is referred to in the trailer so seemingly that's a meaningful reference but the trailer itself is essentially two minutes of madness.

So said French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet of Amelie fame, and Alien Resurrection infamy, when speaking about his idea for a comedy film about robots and the difficulty of finding money for it.

Never having heard of it and it having just been freshly made available for viewing, there's not much we can say about it.
