Stargate Revival Pitch
Posted By:

It's not news that Stargate is returning but rather than non-specific claims about being in talks or having submitted proposals, Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright has shared one of his potential pitches that he's written a pilot for in an exclusive with SyFy Wire.

The pitch sounds like Brad has wisely been paying attention to reception and criticism of other reboots.

My goal was to create something that was new that also honored the existing universe, that lived in the canon of SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe, and therefore included some of those characters. Bring in a new guard? Absolutely. But not at the expense of the pre-existing characters, who I think would still be very much on their game and still firing on all cylinders.

And the big reveal is that in this pitch the Stargate program would no longer be a secret.

I think the trick to anything would be that it's high time the world found out about the Stargate program, for better or for worse. Keeping all of that technology from the world at a time when we could really use it, at a time when climate change is a genuine threat, at a time when there was a pandemic that we sure could have used a fix for, for example. The world needs to find out. The secret needs to get out especially since we have come so far and will have come so far after another 11 or 12 years.

Stargate: Atlantis ended with Atlantis floating off the San Francisco coast. Even cloaked, hiding something that big for very long would be difficult.

To Bleeding Cool, Brad also revealed that he had almost finished writing a pilot for MGM when COVID hit.

The Stargate Broom Closet

This claim by Brad in the SyFy Wire piece caught our eye :

It was this secret that could be happening right now, to the point where in NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain, there is a broom closet that says 'Stargate Command.'

Sounds cool? Indeed it does.

Unfortunately, though, it looks shaky up close.

Wikipedia's entry for Cheyenne Mountain includes a note under popular culture which reads:

There is now a broom closet in the real Cheyenne Mountain Complex called "Stargate Command".

That sounds firmly definitive. Hooray!

But their source's claim for this is less definitive:

To honor this there is said to be a broom closet in the actual bunker base that is labeled, “Stargate Command.”

It sounds fun and completely harmless, but government organisations are probably quite strict and humourless about things like this.
