Black Panther Teaser
Posted By:

Now set to conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe's shortened phase four, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has its first teaser.

It looks excellent.

Sure - this is a point we often make - you can't always judge films by promos.

But the first Black Panther film was one of the MCU's best and we have the same director (Ryan Coogler) and importantly also writers (Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole) returning.

We are inclined towards optimism with this title even though phase four hasn't been great.

Marvel fans would probably remember that Chad Boseman who played the Black Panther / T'Challa in the original film died in 2020.

Film studios occasionally replace actors in major roles but when an actor dies replacement carries the risk of being seen as insensitive.

On the other hand the Marvel films have been criticised for being too white and this character was a big step in the right direction.

His and his country's story are also part of the wider Marvel story.

Conundrum.

What we see in this teaser is their solution - T'Challa has died, his death is being mourned and the bad guys don't let up.

So it's loss and sorrow and grief and Wakanda's other defenders in action.

Plus at teaser's end it looks like someone else has donned the Black Panther suit.

We only see them from behind and while male and female bottoms do tend to look different, the pose and angle make this a tough call.

Calf looks thin so we'd guess female.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release in Australian cinemas on November 10.
