Paramount had quite a lot to share with fans during their Star Trek Day livestream.

They've published a summary on StarTrek.com but we'll take a look at new footage and major news.

Star Trek Day

September 8 is Star Trek Day and there will be a livestreamed special event commencing locally on September 9 at 3 a.m. AEST.

Their schedule covers all of the current TV shows and a tribute to Nichelle Nichols. No mention of the stuck in development hell Star Trek film or other new series previously announced to be in development like Starfleet Academy.

From 4 to 4

Matt Shakman is no longer set to direct the long awaited fourth Star Trek film in the J. J. Abramsverse.

He is considering a return to the Marvel family and is in early talks to direct their upcoming Fantastic Four film.

Lower Decks Date

We previously reported the Star Trek: Lower Decks premiere date as August 25 on Prime Video, relying on StarTrek.com who normally detail variations.

For whatever reason the Prime Video premiere date is now being reported as the 26th, which here should be 10am AEST.

Farewell Nichelle

We're very slow getting to this one so it's unlikely news to many readers, but the death of Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols which was reported a few days ago can't go without comment.

Many tributes touch on a Whoopi Goldberg quote which speaks to the time she came into prominence.

After saying "Fuck Star Wars. But Not Mark Hamill," and that Gene Roddenberry would be "turning in his grave" at some of the new Star Trek series, William Shatner had kinder words for Paul Wesley who now plays Kirk in Strange New Worlds.
